Systems Engineer Communications and Network mf The Mission Our customer, EUMETSAT, maintain a communications infrastructure guaranteeing timely and uninterrupted provision of critical spacecraft, climate and weather data. We seek a Communications and Network Systems Engineer to support the development, deployment and adaptation of critical networking solutions used for satellite operations, as well as acquisition, processing, archiving and dissemination of payload data and generated products. The Challenge We are looking for a Systems Engineer to be located at our customers site in Darmstadt, Germany. The Systems Engineer will support EUMETSATs communications team, contributing to the specification, design, installation, integration, test, procurement, operation and troubleshooting of network infrastructure, services and solutions. Individual tasks include Support the analysis and specification of a concept and roadmap for consolidating WAN edge networks and interfaces. This includes provision of the design and evolution path towards the targeted consolidated system. Support andor lead the phased migration from the current legacy systems Support the migration to a replacement WAN link between EUMETSAT and the ground station Propose a solution for integrating internet service provider links from different providers and deliver the overall migration including all phases Develop and propose a concept for ensuring and sustaining the quality and performance of network solutions and services deployed on the EUMETSAT consolidated and shared network infrastructure Perform an analysis of the EUMETSAT networks supporting the monitoring and control of network, computing and storage systems. Specify a concept and roadmap for evolving, enhancing and consolidating these networks. Lead the upgrades implementing the agreed roadmap Support the migration of existing operational programspecific and shared facilities from their current legacy networks to the consolidated network infrastructure at EUMETSAT Upgrade the EUMETSAT networks in remote sites, including sites in Spain, USA, Norway and Italy, as well as their WAN links to EUMETSAT Support and contribute to the development and deployment of network solutions for the future satellite programs ground infrastructure Develop an understanding of the existing network monitoring and reporting capabilities, with a view to establishing a roadmap for the implementation of more developed realtime performance monitoring and reporting solution This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date beginning of January 2015. Your Qualifications Applicants shall have a university degree or equivalent together with at least 5 years with most or all of the following areas High availability, high reliability networking systems, in a satellite ground system environment or similar, ideally covering the lifecycle from identification of needs to operation Providing coordination and technical guidance to engineers as well as with customersusers and other stakeholders Indepth knowledge of Cisco technology and solutions for these environments Interaction with suppliers of network products and related services supporting procurements of network systems and services Operation of the Microsoft Office suite of software The System Engineer must be able to give cogent, system level explanations geared to the nonspecialists interests and background, while retaining full capability to respond to questions in relevant detail. The System Engineer must also be able to work effectively in the opposite direction translating business needs into technological requirements. English is the working language, and full fluency, both verbal and written, is required. The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. An orderly, disciplined approach and a calm demeanour are expected.
