Telenet, Proximus remain dominant on Belgian fixed market

2015-10-09 15:45:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The Belgian consumer market for fixed services generated revenues of EUR 678 million in the second quarter, with Telenet remaining the largest supplier in terms of both revenues and number of broadband connections, according to Telecompaper's quarterly report about the Belgian fixed consumer market, which came out in September. Telenet reported revenues for fixed services (TV, telephony, internet) in Q2 of EUR 290 million. Proximus (the former incumbent Belgacom) came next with EUR 277 million. Telenet also remains the largest in terms of broadband connections with 1.47 million units. Proximus also comes in second place with nearly 1.34 million connections. The smaller cable operators Voo and Numericable lag behind. Together, they make up 12 percent of the fixed consumer market. Proximus gets about 40 percent of its revenues on the consumer market from fixed broadband and is therefore less dependent than Telenet on the delivery of internet access. Both market leaders have since mid-2013 grown their revenues from broadband to consumers, going to EUR 247 million from 210 million in Q2 2013.
