Wind, 3 Italia prepared to free up spectrum, 8,000 sites

2016-06-13 08:30:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Wind and 3 Italia, the Italian subsidiaries of VimpelCom and Hutchison Whampoa, have offered to sell assets including 8,000 network sites, frequencies and a roaming deal to create a new mobile operator in Italy and convince EC regulators to approve their proposed merger, reports Reuters. The companies are willing to free up frequencies from 900 MHz to 2640 MHz covering cities and rural areas, according to a European Commission questionnaire seen by Reuters. In addition, the new operator would receive up to 5,425 network sites and would be able to request a further 3,000. Both spectrum and sites would be made available over several stages to end-2019, said the report.
