Pernod Ricard has sold its Caribe Cooler brand, a Mexican ready-to-drink wine cooler, to Grupo Bepensa as part of a strategy to focus on its spirits and wine brands. Philippe Dreano, chairman and chief executive officer of Pernod Ricard Americas, said: "The sale of Caribe Cooler highlights both the strong positioning achieved by the brand on the Mexican market and the continuous efforts by Pernod Ricard to focus on its international spirits and wines brands in Mexico, led by Absolut Vodka, Chivas Regal and Ballantine's Scotch whiskies and Martell Cognac."

Goldgroup sells Mexican gold project to Timmins Gold for up to US$30 million

Timmins Gold Corp. will exchange US$10 million cash and shares currently worth about US$15 million to acquire the Caballo Blanco open pit gold mine project in Mexico from Goldgroup Mining Inc. . There's also a contingency for Timmins to pay an additional US$5 million once a permit is granted, making the deal potentially worth US$30 million.

General Motors plans to invest $3.6 billion in Mexico to double its production capacity at its plants around the country, officials said today. Ernesto Hernandez, managing director for General Motors de Mexico, said GM is planning to invest $3.6 billion on top of $1.4 billion already invested in the past two years, The Wall Street Journal reported.

AT&T Inc. has made two acquisitions this year in its expansion into Mexico - neither with billionaire Carlos Slim, who dominates the country's communications industry. Instead, Dallas-based AT&T has committed more than $50 billion to buying Mexican wireless carrier Grupo Iusacell SA and DirecTV, which has a stake in satellite-TV service Sky Mexico.
