Labor Dispute At Ports Could Hamper Railroads

A months-long contract dispute at ports along the West Coast could spill thousands of miles inland, where two rail companies are raising concerns about shipping complications. Some 20,000 members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union have stayed on the job since their contract with the Pacific Maritime Association -- which represents shipping line and terminal operators at 29 ports -- expired last summer.

Cisco building switch ports to feed faster Wi-Fi

Cisco Systems is forging ahead with LAN switches designed to support faster Wi-Fi access points even while an ethernet standard for the technology they use is still taking shape. The switches have ports that can operate at 2.5Gbps or 5Gbps in addition to standard Gigabit and 10-Gigabit ethernet.

Footwear industry warns of 'catastrophe' if U.S. West Coast ports shut down
