'Shameful' badger cull will destroy wildlife, says Chris Packham
2013-08-27 10:55:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Telegraph: The presenter of the BBC's Autumnwatch said it was "both sad and shameful' that the cull of around 5,000 badgers in West Somerset and West Gloucestershire is going ahead. Farmers insist the cull will stop the animals spreading the cattle disease bovine tuberculosis (bTB). Trained marksmen, often the farmers themselves, will shoot up to 80 badgers a night. Guardian: Gull chick taking a splash! Heatwaves and hot weather are affecting local wildlife too While many of us are enjoying the heatwave, naturalists have urged the British public to help wildlife struggling to survive as water and food supplies have dwindled in the heat. After six consecutive days of 30C-plus temperatures and with rainfall at only around 15% of average monthly totals so far, wardens at The Lodge in Sandy, an RSPB nature reserve in Bedfordshire, are working to keep their animals,...
