US raises USD 7.6 billion in auction of 37, 39, 47 GHz bands for 5G

(Telecompaper) The US FCC announced it's completed the auction of the upper 37 GHz, 39 GHz and 47 GHz bands, which started on 10 December 2019. The auction of 5G spectrum attracted total bids of USD 7.56 billion, and bidders won 99.9 percent of the licences on offer.
Thailand to auction four spectrum bands for 5G services in February

(Telecompaper) Thailand's National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has approved the auction of four spectrum bands for provision of 5G services on the local market. The Commission will auction 5G spectrum in the 700 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2600 MHz and 26 GHz frequency bands in 2020, local newspaper The Nation reports. The NBTC plans to auction a single band at a time on 16 February next year.

ITU identifies new bands for 5G, procedures for LEO megaconstellation operators

(Telecompaper) About 3400 delegates from 165 member states have signed the International Telecommunication Union's Radio Regulations' Final Acts, the international treaty governing the global use of radio-frequency spectrum and satellite orbits. The signatures were given during the ITU World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19) at Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh , now concluded. The biggest takeaway from the conference was the identification of more frequency bands for 5G and the establishment of regulatory procedures for mega constellations of low earth orbit (LEO) satellites.

Colombia to auction 4G spectrum in 700MHz, 1.9GHz and 2.5GHz bands in December

(Telecompaper) Colombia's Ministry of Information Technology and Communications (Mintic) has announced that it will finally be holding a long-delayed auction for LTE spectrum in the 700MHz, 1.9GHz and 2.5GHz bands on 12 December 2019. The tender follows the approval of Colombia's new ICT law earlier this year containing numerous initiatives designed to bridge the country's digital divide and implement the president Ivan Duque's election pledge to bring internet to 100 percent of Colombians by 2022.
