The Link Between Fracking and Oklahomas Quakes Keeps Getting Stronger

2015-04-06 21:46:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Climate Desk: Over the last few years, Oklahoma has experienced an insane uptick in earthquakes. As we reported in 2013, the count exploded from just a couple per year back in the mid-2000s to over a thousand in 2010, growing alongside a boom in the states natural gas drilling industry. There is now a heap of peer-reviewed research finding that Oklahomas earthquake swarm is directly linked to frackingnot the gas drilling itself, but a follow-up step where brackish wastewater is re-injected into disposal...

Ecologist: There are immense water efficiencies to be gained, but any rational reorganization is blocked by the US financial oligarchy, which, controlling the entire political system, will not abide any impingement on its profits. The unprecedented drought gripping California has deepened for the fourth consecutive year, having already set new records for the lowest annual precipitation levels on record. 2014 brought the highest calendar-year temperature for the state, while this February was the hottest...

Fracking: New aerial research track pollutants above western fossil fuel development zones

Summit County: A recent study of satellite data showing a hotspot of potent heat-trapping methane pollution over the Four Corners region makes it clear that we`re digging an ever-deeper global warming hole by fracking every last corner of the country. As NOAA put it, "Vast regions west of the Mississippi River are under development for oil and gas extraction ... but while one focus is on what comes out of the ground, NOAA and Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences researchers and their...
