United Continental Holdings Inc and its union said Saturday that workers voted in favor of contracts hiking the pay of some 30,000 baggage handlers, gate agents and other groups, a dramatic reversal from a year ago when the No.3 U.S. airline mulled outsourcing some of these jobs. Former LAX baggage handlers busted in cocaine smuggling case

On the same day a JetBlue Airways flight attendant was due to appear in court on charges she tried to carry 70 pounds of cocaine onto a plane at LAX, two former baggage handlers at the airport were arrested Monday for allegedly smuggling cocaine past security as part of a nationwide drug ring. Adrian Ponce, 27, and Alberto Preciado Gutierrez, 26, both of South Gate, were expected to make initial court appearances Tuesday in downtown Los Angeles.

Southwest Airlines baggage handlers to vote on contract

Southwest Airlines and its ground workers union on Wednesday announced they had reached a new tentative agreement, hopefully ending more than four years of sometimes acrimonious negotiations. The Transportation Workers Union Local 555 executive board, which represents more than 12,000 baggage handlers and ramp workers at the Dallas-based carrier, reviewed an agreement in principal reached Dec. 23 and decided to conduct a ratification vote.

On the busiest traveling weekend of the year, these airline employees threw all trust for baggage procedures out the window. The clip, recorded on Tuesday by Chase Platon at San Jose Mineta International Airport, showed the employees lining up and lunging the luggage to see how far they could throw it.
