A man who appeared to deliberately roll into the path of an oncoming freight train in Carlsbad was a 27-year-old resident of Oceanside, authorities said Monday. The man was seen lying on the ground in the vicinity of Oak and Washington avenues, then on the tracks before being struck by a northbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train around 2 a.m. Thursday, according to the sheriff's department.
