Apple Music tops 10 mln paid subscribers - report

(Telecompaper) Apple Music has passed 10 million paid subscribers, six months after its launch, people familiar with the matter told the Financial Times. The service launched in over 100 countries last June and Apple said in October that it had 6.5 million paying subscribers. The company offers the first three months of the service free. Apple Music is still smaller than Spotify, which claimed last June over 20 million paid subscribers.

Lou Christie has teamed with a group of fellow Pittsburgh singing legends to record a new song, "The Soldier," to benefit veterans. Joining Christie are Donnie Iris and his former Jaggerz band mate Jimmy Ross, The Skyliners' Jimmy Beaumont, Joe Grushecky, Pete Hewlett and Johnny Angel, with Pittsburgh Pirates' manager Clint Hurdle doing the intro.

The Brentwood Philharmonic Orchestra is planning to dazzle audiences with its concert Music for the New Year, which will showcase its renditions of famous and beloved pieces of classical music at the theatre in Shenfield Road. Some of the pieces performed in the concert, which will be led by Charles Clark and conducted by John Hawkins, will include Beethoven's Allegretto scherzando from Symphony No 8, Debussy's Clair de Lune and Golliwogg's Cakewalk, Grieg's March of the Trolls and Elgar's Chanson de Matin.
