The Port of New York and New Jersey - the largest port complex on the US East Coast - exceeded its previous record for annual cargo volumes by 10.4% in 2015, after many retailers were forced to shift their freight operations to the region in response to the West Coast port dispute.

Oil Bets Rise to Record as Speculators Battle Over Market Course

Total wagers on the price of crude climbed to the highest since the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission began tracking the data in 2006. Speculators' combined short and long positions in West Texas Intermediate crude, the U.S. benchmark, rose to 497,280 futures and options contracts in the week ended Feb. 2. WTI moved more than 1 percent each day in the past three weeks.

Bloomberg: The European Union installed record wind-power capacity in 2015 as the technology leapfrogged hydropower to become the third-biggest source of electricity in the 28-nation bloc. Germanys market led the growth, installing 47 percent of the 12.8-gigawatts of new wind power capacity across the region, the European Wind Energy Association said Tuesday in an e-mailed report. Record offshore installations canceled out a dip in new onshore machines. That pushed the total for 2015 above the 12.1 gigawatts...

Instead, January and indeed much of the winter so far has been unusually mild throughout large parts of the Arctic.
