China, emerging APAC drive record quarterly smartphone sales
2015-11-27 08:46:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) China's return to growth and high demand in emerging Asia-Pacific countries (APAC) drove third-quarter global smartphone sales to a quarterly record of 323.7 million, up 7.4 percent year on year, according to GfK. A 24 percent year-on-year increase in unit sales in emerging APAC was driven primarily by a 40 percent year-on-year growth in India, thanks above all to strong demand within the sub-USD 100 price band segment (up 66 percent year-on-year), which now accounts for almost half (48 percent) of the market, said GfK. Sales were also up 16 percent year-on-year in the Middle East and Africa (MEA), with Egypt posting stand-out figures of 39 percent year-on-year. In contrast to India, it was sales of high-end and mid-range smartphones that returned unit sales in China to growth for the first time in over a year. A total of 98 millions units were sold in the third quarter, a year-on-year increase of 6 percent, with sales units of high-end (USD 500+) and mid-range (USD 250-500) devices up 65 percent and 25 percent year-on-year, respectively.

2015-11-25 11:47:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
BBC: Global average temperatures in 2015 are likely to be the warmest on record, according to the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO). Data until the end of October showed this year's temperatures running "well above" any previous 12 month period. The researchers say the five year period from 2011 to 2015 was also the warmest on record. The rise, they state, was due to a combination of a strong El Nino and human-induced global warming. The WMO said their preliminary estimate, based on...

2015-11-25 11:01:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Climate Home: This year is poised to be the warmest in recorded history the World Meteorological Organization said on Wednesday. Man-made climate change and a strengthening El Nino are set to ensure world surface temperatures reach 1C above pre-industrial levels in 2015. 2015 is likely to be the hottest year on record, with ocean surface temperatures at the highest level since measurements began," said Michel Jarraud, head of the Geneva-based agency in a statement. "This is all bad news for the planet."...

2. U.S. auto sales could break November record, two forecasts say
2015-11-25 10:58:09| Auto Dealers - Topix.net
Auto brands, such as Chevy and others, that advertised early for Black Friday sales could outperform the industry, TrueCar predicted. This month -- powered by Black Friday sales and a strengthening economy -- could be the best November ever for U.S. auto sales, according to forecasts from TrueCar and Edmunds.com, and also may mark the first time in history that the industry's seasonally adjusted, annualized selling rate has topped 18 million units for three consecutive months.
