According to Feb 1 employment report by U.S. Department of Labor, construction industry unemployment rate shot up to 16.1% in January, despite addition of 28,000 jobs. Rate marks increase from 13.5% in December 2012, but decrease from 17.7% same time last year. Year over year, construction employment has risen by 102,000 jobs, or 1.8%. According to January 4 employment report by U.S. Labor Department, U.S. construction, nonresidential building construction, residential building, and residential specialty trade contractor sectors all added jobs since December 2011. Heavy and civil engineering construction sector lost 700 jobs for month but added 400 jobs during 2011.
