EC to begin self-driving bus trials in San Sebastian

(Telecompaper) The European Commission has announced that the northern Spanish city of San Sebastian has been chosen as the location for initial tests of the CityMobil2 self-driving bus. The trial will last for three months with the 12-person capacity electric bus connecting public transport with the business area of San Sebastian's Science and Technology Park. It will be the first time a self-driving bus has been tested with real passengers in Spain. The fleet of three vehicles will run 24 hours a day, offering free trips as well as free Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity to the 4,000 workers in the industrial park.

Google to Put Self-Driving Cars Through Rainy-Day Paces

Google on Wednesday announced that it has chosen Kirkland, Washington, as the next location to test its self-driving cars. It picked Kirkland as the third test city to give the cars more experience driving in new environments, traffic patterns and road conditions. Google has conducted testing mainly at or near its campus in Mountain View, California. Last year it expanded to Austin, Texas.

US pledges $4 billion toward faster adoption of self-driving cars

The US administration pledged Thursday to help clear the way for autonomous vehicles with an investment of $4 billion to fund research and testing projects. US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx made the announcement in Detroit, flanked by executives from Google and auto manufacturers General Motors, Ford Motor Co., Volvo, Fiat Chrysler and Honda.
