Honda confirms eighth death linked to Takata airbags

Honda Motor Co's U.S. unit said on Friday it has linked the September 2014 death of a woman in Los Angeles, California, to the rupture of a Takata airbag inflator, bringing to eight the number of fatalities related to defective Takata airbags. U.S. highway safety regulators also confirmed that the death of Jewel Brangman in a 2001 Honda Civic is the seventh U.S. death, and the eighth fatality worldwide related to Takata airbag inflators that can explode, sending shards of metal through the passenger compartments of cars.

Toyota expands Takata U.S. air bag recalls by 1.37 million vehicles

Toyota Motor Corp said on Tuesday it will increase the number of U.S. recalls involving potentially deadly front passenger-side air bags made by Japan's Takata Corp by almost 1.37 million vehicles. The expansion pushes the total number of Toyota vehicles covered by Takata recalls in the United States to more than 2.9 million.

A Louisiana woman who got an airbag recall notice for her 2005 Honda Civic two days after the crash that killed her may be the seventh fatality linked to the defective Takata Corp. safety device. The driver, Kylan Langlinais, 22, received the recall notice in the mail April 7, two days after the wreck and two days before she died, according to a complaint filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Lafayette, La.
