A larger-than-projected drop in revenue this year for the Alaska Railroad has president and CEO Bill O'Leary exploring ways to strike real estate deals on railroad property and run more beer trains and other popular specialty passenger excursions. Also heavy on O'Leary's mind is how the railroad will pay for routine maintenance of thousands of train cars and hundreds of miles of track should the revenue drop continue over the long term.

AT&T, which on Friday received final U.S. regulatory approval to buy DirecTV, will offer ad-supported TV streaming and mobile video products while building out its advertising technology, John Stankey, the AT&T executive named as chief of the company's Internet and Entertainment division, told Reuters. Encana Corp. posts second-quarter loss, revenue falls from year ago

Encana Corp. reported a loss in its latest quarter as its U.S. operations were hit by a big impairment charge related to the drop in commodity prices. The company, which keeps its books in U.S. dollars, says its loss attributable to shareholders totalled US$1.61 billion or $1.91 per share for the quarter ended June 30. The loss for the quarter included an after-tax $1.33-billion impairment charge as well as a $187-million after-tax hit related to an unrealized hedging loss.

Syntel Inc., a global provider of digital transformation, information technology and knowledge process services to Global 2000 companies, has announced financial results for the second quarter, ended June 30, 2015. Syntel's revenue for the second quarter rose to USD 239.8 million from USD 228.2 million in the prior-year period and USD220.6 million in the first quarter of 2015.
