Optical Communication Systems Manager mf

2015-10-27 15:05:53| Space-careers.com Jobs RSS

Airbus Defence and Space is a division of Airbus Group, formed by combining the business activities of Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus Military. The new division is Europes number one defence and space enterprise, the second largest space business worldwide and among the top ten global defence enterprises. It has an annual revenue of around 14 billion and employs approximately 40,000 people. A vacancy for an Optical Communication Systems Manager mf has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Toulouse. The successful applicant will join the Telecom Systems department. Airbus Defence Space studies the development of freespace optical communication systems. This involves laser communications for constellations or communications between satellites in low Earth orbit LEO or in geostationary orbit GEO and the ground. The applications planned for the latter cases are either oneway image telemetry or a high speed optical feeder several hundred Gbps and are twoway for broadband systems. The design of optical communication systems through the layers of atmosphere requires the knowledge of interference connected with atmospheric turbulence and also mastery of modulation, encryption, interlacing and synchronisation techniques in order to define the waveform best adapted to this type of transmission channel. The use of a variety of locations to maintain high availability of the feeder link in spite of clouds requires using a fibre optic ground communications network to connect the different optic sites OGS On Ground Stations between them and with the users. Mastery of this network and the mechanism of transferring user data to the sites the handover is fundamental with regards to the cost of the entire optical system both from an operational minimising the handover time and commercial standpoint minimising the cost of a high speed ground network. You will join the optical communication systems team and you will eventually take over the responsibility of this team. Firstly, you will be in charge of the activities linked to modulation, encryption, interlacing and synchronisation technique and will participate, in particular, in the phase A study of a high speed optical feeder system. You will be responsible for the development of simulation tools or the use of simulation software dedicated to optical communication, so as to evaluate the optical transmission system performance. This activity will be conducted in close relationship with the studies on atmospheric propagation ducts, as well as the architecture of optical terminals. You will also be responsible for the following activities Contributing to the optimisation of optical communication architecture adapted to the atmospheric transmission duct according to the different missions planned, Evaluating their technical feasibility, their commercial viability and establishing comparative studies between the different options, Analysing constraints associated with the mechanism of the handover between the optical ground stations such as The positioning of the optical modem within the optic feeder ground network backbone, The optimisation of the interface between the backbone and the ground optical communication operators networks, The protocols of the network layer and the mechanisms of synchronisation, The cost of the ground network, by undertaking a comparative study between the proprietary backbone option or leasing from a ground optical communications operator, The idea is to define the architecture of the backbone and its cost at both the investment and operational levels. In the context of your activities, you will also be in charge of coordinating with the other Airbus DS teams involved with optical subjects satellite payload including photonic aspects, Earth observation, etc., as well as with external partners industrial and research laboratories, and notably with those involved with the Institute for Technological Research IRT. This position will require occasional travel for business once a month in Europe, and, as such, you must be able to travel accordingly. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Engineering diploma or equivalent, At least 5 years of experience with digital signal processing channels modulation, coding, synchronisation, detection, interlacing, etc. Good knowledge of ground systems communication networks by fibre optic 1.55 technology, WDM, etc., Good idea of telecommunication systems satellite and ground, Ability to synthesise and critically analyse solutions, High level of autonomy and good interpersonal skills, Advanced level of English and French.
