As director of the EPA's Office of Transportation and Air Quality, Margo Oge helped lead the charge to implement federal regulations designed to slash vehicle emissions and double fuel economy to a 54.5 mpg average by the 2025 model year. Those rules, finalized in 2012, harmonized auto industry regulations imposed by the EPA, Department of Transportation and California state authorities for the first time, and have become a major part of the Obama administration's push to slow climate change.

CEO Chuck Swoboda told investors the move will allow Cree's own factories, many of which are in Durham, to focus on new technologies not yet available in the market. Newly qualified manufacturing partners will supply some of the targeted growth in Cree's lighting business in the fourth quarter, Swoboda says.

A recent paper simply titled, 'The End', that has been incubating over on the Arxiv preprint server has just been promoted to peer-publication status in Physical Review Letters. In it the authors wager the ultimate prediction: not only will there be an Armageddon, but the collapse of the universe will start to kick in a few tens of billions of years from today.
