Specific Tasks The candidate will be assigned to the Payload Engineering section with the role of RF Payloads Engineer and will work in one or more of the following domains RF Navigation Payloads RF and Microwave Remote Sensing Instruments for Earth Observation RF Satellite Communication Payloads Tasks and responsibilities include Contribute to internal RD activities for the design, modelling, architectural tradeoff and performance assessment of advanced RF telecommunication andor navigation payloads, with main emphasis on payloads based on digital signal processing and active antennas, and RF instruments for earth observation Synthetic Aperture Radars, Altimeters, Scatterometers, Radiometers. Perform technical management of RD activities with industryinstitutions in the field of advanced payload concepts and subsystemsequipment development. Provide RF payload technical support to ESA projects and programmes. Contribute to the generation and promotion of innovative ideas for future satellite missions in the field of RF payloads, including the definition of ESA RD programmes. Define technical requirements and statements of work for RD activities to be performed by industry, from early conceptual studies to full hardware development. Carry out computer simulations at systemsubsystem level for the assessment of endtoend payload and instrument performance. Contribute to the developmentusage of section related laboratory facilities and analysissimulation tools. Maintain stateoftheart expertise by monitoring the RFMicrowave systems technological trends and applying them in the daytoday tasks. Specific Qualification Requirements Master or PhD in Telecommunications, Microwave or RF Electronics Engineering with at least 4 years of working experience. Good background and several years of working experience on design, development and testing of Radio Frequency Payloads in the domain of Navigation andor Earth observation andor Telecommunications. Knowledge and Experience on the following topics are considered an asset o Radio frequency and microwave payloads technologies based on active phased array antennas, o TransmitReceive Modules for microwave payloads, o Digital signal processing units, and experience on payloads based on digital signal processing, o Endtoend payload performance and signal quality analysis, o Stateoftheart RF analogue and highspeed digital signal processing techniques and technologies, o Software and simulation tools and programming MatlabSimulink, ADSVSS, CC, Python, o Promoting cooperation and teamworking, problem solving. Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team within the boundaries of assigned tasks and a stringent schedule. Proficiency in English language spoken and written is essential. Legal and Security Requirements All applicants must be legally allowed to work in The Netherlands Applicants are required to provide a copy of their passport and degree certificate. Atomic Clocks and Time and Frequency Test beds. Navigation payloads and associated equipment. Linear and Nonlinear characterisation of subsystemsdevices. Life time testing of RF payload equipment. MICMMIC integration using dedicated equipment such as wire and ribbon bonding machines, eutectic die bonding and testing using on wafer probing station. General laboratory support such as, general maintenance activities, calibration of the laboratory equipment, upgrade of test facilities, replacement of consumables, design of mechanical housings, thermal plates and test jigs for RF circuits, etc. Maintain up to date the RF equipment inventory list and control of lent out equipment. Development of software tools for control and monitoring of performance parameters of RF test beds. TTC and communication test beds. PIM performance, multipactor performance and high power evaluation. General laboratory support such as, scheduled maintenance, replacement of consumables, and design of mechanical housings, thermal plates and test jigs for RF circuits. Development of control software using VEE for automated testing. Organisation and maintenance of laboratory library, which includes documentation operating manuals, test reports and general documentation.
