ANSI C136.14-2014 American National Standard for Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment—Elliptically Shaped, Enclosed Side-mounted Luminaires covers dimensional, maintenance, and light distribution features that permit interchange of enclosed, side-mounted luminaires for horizontal-burning HID lamps and other light sources. Revisions include requirements for light sources other than HID, updated references, updated language to reflect committee preference, and requirements for ingress protection.

AASHTO has joined the National Strategy on Highway Safety Toward Zero Deaths effort, which was created by a steering committee cooperative that includes numerous organizations committed to reducing annual U.S. traffic fatalities from more than 33,000 to zero. ANSI Accredited Standards Committee 136 has developed ANSI C136.16-2014 American National Standard for Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment—Enclosed, Post Top-mounted Luminaires. Standard covers dimensional, maintenance, and light distribution features that permit interchange of enclosed, post top-mounted high-intensity discharge lamps, solid-state light sources, compact fluorescent lamps, and induction luminaires whose center of mass is approximately over the mounting tenon.
