The employer of a contractor who died Dec. 4 while working on the expansion of the CF Industries plant in Ascension Parish has identified the worker as a married father of three from south Texas. Officials with Sulzer Chemtech said Thursday they are continuing to investigate what led to the death of Teodoro Silva Jr., 30, of Mercedes, Texas.

Federal agency seeks alternate pipeline route through forest

Federal regulators have asked developers of the planned Atlantic Coast Pipeline to consider an alternative route through the Monongahela National Forest that would veer southward from the proposed route to avoid environmentally sensitive areas. The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission called for an evaluation of the alternative southerly route for the pipeline in response to a request for environmental information sent by the agency late last week.
