As India Experiences Record Heat, Where Is Hottest Place On Earth?

2016-05-26 09:16:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

IFLScience: A city in northern India is currently in the midst of a scorching heatwave, as the temperature smashes the national heat record at a sweltering 51°C (124°F) this week. Recorded in the city of Phalodi in the desert state of Rajasthan, there are fears that the heatwave may lead to repeats of the environmental disaster seen last year when thousands of people died in India from dehydration. The government has even stepped in this time and ordered that rivers be diverted to try and prevent such a recurrence....

Why some climate processes are more effective at warming Earth

2016-05-25 16:32:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

ScienceDaily: A new paper in Nature Communications explains why some climate processes are more effective than others at warming/cooling Earth. By accounting for these differences we can more accurately determine the most important drivers of climate change in sensitive regions like the Arctic. The scientists Richard Davy and Igor Esau at the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center/Bjerknes Center for Climate Research in Bergen Norway bring a new perspective to understanding why some climate processes...

Burning all fossil fuels would 'cook' Earth, raise temperatures 8 degrees: study

2016-05-24 13:26:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Age: Burning all the world's known fossil fuels would result in the release of the equivalent of 5 trillion tonnes of carbon dioxide and drive global temperatures 8 degrees warmer than pre-industrial levels by 2300, a report by Canadian researchers has found. The study, published on Tuesday in Nature Climate Change, extended models used for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and found impacts that were "considerably larger" than previously indicated. For instance, by 2300, global temperatures...
