VMware will release in July a new version of its Horizon VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) software that will allow administrators to manage VDI and non-VDI deployments in a unified manner, by using multiple VMware technologies. "We are extending VMware Horizon beyond VDI, to be able to do virtual desktops," said Sumit Dhawan, VMware vice president and general manager of desktop products and end-user computing.

Forecaster: The South Portland Planning Board on Tuesday endorsed a 180-day extension of the moratorium on tar sands developments, which is set to expire May 5. The board approved the extension 4-0, with Rob Schreiber and Erick Giles absent. The City Council sent the extension to the board after it approved a first reading March 17. Airlines for America (A4A) commended European Union (EU) Parliament for its work in agreeing to extend "stop the clock" provision on unilateral application of EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) to international aviation. This will stay application of EU ETS to flights to and from EU through 2016. In comment, A4A President and CEO Nicholas E.
