Wind, Public Mobile, Mobilicity quit industry group CWTA
2013-04-10 22:17:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Wind Mobile, Public Mobile and Mobilicity have announced their withdrawal from the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA). The three mobile service providers say the move is a direct result of their long-standing, mounting frustration with the CWTA's consistent bias in favour of Rogers, Bell and Telus on a variety of issues. From this point, the CWTA does not, and cannot, claim to speak on behalf of the Canadian mobile wireless sector. The three operators are the newest on the Canadian market, after acquiring spectrum in 2008 when the market was opened up. However, they remain much smaller than the three dominant players, Bell, Rogers and Telus. The CWTA said in a statement that they had been "valued members" of the industry group, and their departure was "unfortunate and surprising". The CWTA rejected the accusation that it represents the interests of only certain members, and said it "has always and will continue to work on behalf of all of its members". It added the three companies would be missed and would be welcome to return in future.

Is International Cooperation Minister Julian Fantino to be believed when he said, in the governments first public statement on Wednesday, that membership in this convention was costly for Canadians?
