The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has reduced the length of federally mandated contracts Idaho Power signs with renewable energy projects such as solar and wind from 20 years to five years. The commissioners on Thursday approved the change that will be in place until the commission decides on an Idaho Power request to reduce the contract length to two years.

Guardian: Solar power almost doubled in the last year, with 650,000 installations ranging from solar farms to panels on homes, figures showed. Mitsubishi Electric Corp., a Japanese maker of machinery and electronics, completed a 6-megawatt solar power station in northern Japan . The plant in Iwaki city, Fukushima prefecture, was built for a venture between Mitsubishi Corp. and Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance Co., Mitsubishi Electric said in a statement today.
