Market research firm Gartner Inc. trimmed its forecast for 2015 global semiconductor sales, saying it now expects chip sales to decline nearly 1% compared with 2014. If accurate, the forecast decline of 0.8% would be represent the first annual decline in sales for the semiconductor industry since 2012, when sales dipped by 2.6%.

The three-month average of global chip sales for August declined by 3 percent in comparison with the same month a year ago, according to numbers from World Semiconductor Trade Statistics and reported by the European Semiconductor Industry Association . In July the same statistic was down by 0.9 percent and the chip market decline is therefore accelerating.
With decline in coal traffic, Norfolk Southern lays off 39 workers

Norfolk Southern Corp. announced Friday that it was laying off 39 employees at its Lamberts Point coal-loading facility, effective at the close of business. The action is a "result of a decline in shipments of export coal through the terminal," Susan Terpay, a spokeswoman, said in an email.
