China Unicom H1 profit up 69% on lower revenues

(Telecompaper) China Unicom said it expects its service revenue for the first half of 2017 to reach CNY 124.1 billion, which represents an increase of 3.2 percent year-on-year. Mobile service revenue is expected to be around CNY 76.8 billion, up by 5.2 percent year-on-year. Due to the intense competition in the fixed-line broadband market, China Unicom estimates its broadband access revenue fell year-on-year, resulting in flat fixed-line service revenue of nearly CNY 46.6 billion.

Snap losses widen in Q2 as revenues more than double

(Telecompaper) Snap saw its net loss widen to USD 443 million in the second quarter from USD 116 million a year earlier. Revenues still more than doubled year-on-year to USD 182 million from USD 78 million. The adjusted EBITDA loss was USD 194 million versus a loss of USD 105 million a year ago.

Viber revenues up 91% in Q2, grows to 920 mln users

(Telecompaper) Mobile messaging and VoIP app Viber reached 920 million unique users in June, up from 891 million in March and 823 million in June 2016. According to its parent company Rakuten, Viber's second-quarter revenues were up 91 percent year-on-year, driven by more customers making calls with Viber Out and increased content purchases. Telecom accounted for 73 percent of Viber's revenue and content the remainder.
