Russia clears e-commerce venture for Alibaba, Megafon, Mail.ru

(Telecompaper) The new business will be based on Alibaba's e-commerce business AliExpress in the country and the Mail.ru Group platform and operate under the name AliExpress Russia. The joint venture's board will include representatives of Megafon, Mail.ru group, Alibaba Group and RFPI. Two CEOs will manage the company, one nominated by Alibaba Group and the other by Mail.ru Group.

Alibaba to raise USD 20 bln in Hong Kong listing in H2 - report

(Telecompaper) Alibaba plans to raise USD 20 billion via a second listing in Hong Kong. Alibaba previously raised USD 25 billion in its first listing in New York in 2014, in the world's largest initial public offering. Alibaba is working with financial advisers on the planned offering, Bloomberg reports, citing unnamed people with knowledge of the matter. According to the same sources, Alibaba would file a listing application in Hong Kong confidentially in the second half of this year.

China Smart Speaker surge puts Baidu, Alibaba, Xiaomi in reach of Amazon and Google

Sales of smart speakers in China in the first quarter of 2019 grew by more than 500% year-on-year, according to Strategy Analytics. This lifted global Q1 sales to 25.9 million, a 168% increase on the same period in 2018.

Alibaba revenue growth improves to 51% in Q4, outlook cautious for new year

(Telecompaper) Alibaba's growth accelerated in the company's fiscal fourth quarter to March, showing little impact from the slowing Chinese economy. Sales were up 51 percent year-on-year to CNY 93.5 billion (USD 13.9 billion). Its core e-commerce business grew 54 percent to CNY 78.9 billion, while cloud computing was up 76 percent to CNY 7.7 billion. The net profit more than tripled, to CNY 23.4 billion from CNY 6.6 billion, thanks to valuation gains on investments.
