(Telecompaper) After the closing of the Disney/Fox deal in the previous week, more fundamental changes came to the media sector in week 13. The NENT Group was spun off from the Modern Times Group, Schibsted announced the spin-off of Adevinta and Naspers plans the IPO of its internet unit. The Telecompaper Stock Index Global Consumer Media ended the week down 0.5 percent, versus a 1.2 percent gain for the S&P 500.

(Telecompaper) The European telecoms stocks had a relatively good week. The EuroStoxx 50 index was dpown 4.5 percent in week 41, versus a decline of 2.0 percent for our telecoms index. The week's performances varied between +20 percent for Forthnet (Greece) and -9.9 percent for Play (Poland). Microcaps aside, the performance range was from +6.1 percent for Iliad -5.8 percent for Vodafone.

(Telecompaper) With the auction of Sky ending a long takeover battle, a spectrum auction in Italy going into overdrive and potentially explosive regulatory news from the Netherlands the European telecoms sector proved to be anything but dull. Share price performance in week 39 ranged between -8 percent and +35 percent. Our index lost 0.5 percent, performing slightly better than the EuroStoxx 50 index at -0.9 percent. Intelsat extended its year-to-date gain to no less than 800 percent.
