Antarctic Ice Sheet Is Reportedly Gaining More Mass Than Is Losing
2015-10-31 22:27:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Inquisitr: The Antarctic ice sheet is gaining more mass than it is losing, according to recent studies conducted by NASA. Researchers admit some glaciers are indeed thinning. However, snow accumulation continues to offset the loss by increasing the mass of the continent`s overall land ice. As explained by the National Snow & Ice Data Center, ice sheets, which are also referred to as glacial land ice, are solid masses of ice covering a mass of land. They are specifically defined by their size, which must...

Khaleej Times: Displacement of people from coastal regions will overshadow Syrian migrant crisis, says expert. The UAE and the rest of the world should begin preparing for a future in which vast portions of the globe become uninhabitable due to climate change, triggering mass migration and potential conflicts, a visiting Belgian professor has warned. Francois Gemenne, a specialist on environmental geopolitics and a professor at Sciences Politics in Paris and the Free University of Brussels, was in Dubai to...

MTA Approves 2015-19 Capital Program to Renew, Enhance and Expand Mass Transit
2015-10-31 08:30:30| Railroads - Topix.net
October 28, 2015 - The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board today approved its 2015-19 Capital Program, the largest investment ever in the subways, buses, railroads, bridges and tunnels that keep New York moving. The Capital Program will buy thousands of new subway cars, train cars and buses; invest $2.8 billion in subway station improvements; finish installing Positive Train Control on Metro-North Railroad and the Long Island Rail Road ; bring countdown clocks to the majority of subway stations; begin work on extending the Second Avenue Subway to East Harlem; build a new LIRR station in Elmhurst, Queens; and construct four new Metro-North stations in underserved areas of the Bronx.

Mass gains of Antarctic Ice Sheet greater than losses
2015-10-31 05:26:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
ScienceDaily: A new NASA study says that an increase in Antarctic snow accumulation that began 10,000 years ago is currently adding enough ice to the continent to outweigh the increased losses from its thinning glaciers. The research challenges the conclusions of other studies, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) 2013 report, which says that Antarctica is overall losing land ice. According to the new analysis of satellite data, the Antarctic ice sheet showed a net gain of 112 billion...
