Summary An opportunity for an experienced Space Science Instrument Engineer to work onsite at ESTEC for Telespazio VEGA UK. Objective The work includes providing Space Science Instrument support in the domain of Life Sciences human physiology and biology with particular focus on developments related to bioreactors, chemical processes and contamination related aspects. Responsibilities Duties Duties may include but are not limited to Assistance in the provision of specific engineering support to ESA projects, including project support for manned spaceflight related activities and scientific experiments onboard the ISS in the area of life support and instrumentation Provision of support in detailed technical specification of planned RD activities in the field of sustainable life support technologies, with a specific focus on developments related to bioreactors, chemical processes, and contamination related aspects Assistance in the technical evaluation of development results, as well as designs from projects Conceptual planning and implementation of test setups in the microgravity laboratory Planning, settingup and execution of test activities in the laboratory Analysis, evaluation, reporting and interpretation of data of biological or physiological experiments Support of Breadboard testing and sample evaluation for Life Support activities Qualifications Experience PhD or MSc in Process Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering or similar fields with knowledge and experience of space systems engineering Relevant experience, preferably in space related instrumentation Hands on lab experience in handling microbial samples and relevant lab instrumentation is an asset Good knowledge of software and electronics desirable Essential Skills Good English language skills Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to present and effectively communicate Ability to work effectively, autonomously and cooperatively in a diverse multidisciplinary and multicultural team environment, defining and implementing solutions in line with team and individual objectives, as well as project deadlines.
