The Mayfair Collection involved demolishing a portion of warehouse buildings fronting the freeway to create about 270,000 square feet of retail. HSA Commercial Real Estate started buying abandoned and underused warehouse buildings - including the old Kohl's Food Stores and Roundy's warehouses - along U.S. Highway 45 in Wauwatosa in 2004 with the idea that the properties' proximity to Mayfair mall would someday pay off.

Irvine real estate broker, two agents charged in loan-modification scheme

Two real estate agents and a broker are facing felony charges in a grand theft loan-modification scheme, and the Orange County District Attorney's Office is asking for the public's help identifying others who may have been affected. Michael Pelimiano Soriano, 45, of Irvine; Augustin Navarra Alayon, 52, of Canoga Park; and Joseph Anthony Q. Oliva, 50, of San Jose are charged with six felony counts each of grand theft and one felony count of collecting a foreclosure consultant unlawful advance fee, prosecutors said.

Exxon Mobil's top lawyer said Wednesday that a heavily criticized $225 million pollution settlement with New Jersey was reasonable and that the nearly $9 billion initially sought by the state shouldn't be used as a barometer because it was calculated using faulty methodology. The settlement announced in March has drawn criticism from environmentalists and lawmakers in both parties who have said the state should have waited for a judge's ruling instead of settling for what they have a characterized as pennies on the dollar.
