Cotton yarn import prices have been raised in dollar terms in China, however dropping in yuan terms, due to the rise of the Chinese currency. Domestic yarns are less competitive, with imports being therefore potentially boosted. Our weekly report covers the China yarn domestic and import market indicators, as well as local market prices in Qianqing and Shaoxing (Zhejiang). Prices of a large number of counts are released for spun cotton, polyester, viscose and blends. Import prices are also available for yarns from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Domestic and import yarn prices are compared. All data are available for download.

Viscose prices have stopped falling in China, due to a decline of operating rates at fiber plants after margins have disappeared. Material costs are now declining however, as a result of lower demand from VSF producers. Prices could possibly bottom out in a few weeks, according to our short-term price forecast. Viscose spun yarn prices in China, India and Pakistan are also available. Cotton linter, cotton pulp and wood pulp prices on domestic and import markets are being tracked over the last 12 months, in addition.

Cotton yarn prices have been slightly raised in India after cotton fiber prices have sharply rebounded in the past weeks. Demand from downward processors could however decline as a result, as already observed on the export markets where cotton yarn prices have been significantly increased, partly due to the rise of the rupee. Our review of Indian yarn prices covers the domestic and export markets, including carded and combed cotton, poly-cotton, poly-viscose, 100% polyester and 100% viscose. Major yarn production centres are covered with Tirupur (Tamil Nadu), Bhiwandi (Maharashtra) and Ludhiana (Punjab). Yarn prices are compared with fiber prices offering latest trends of spinners' margins. Market fundamentals are available on a monthly basis, including production and exports.
