USDA Forecasts Record Corn and Soybean Crops

P. Scott Shearer, Bockorny Group, Washington, D.C. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is forecasting record corn and soybean crops this fall that will result in lower prices. The 2014-15 corn crop is forecast at a record 14.03 billion bushels compared to the previous record of 13.925 billion bushels in 2013. Based on conditions as of Aug. 1, yields are projected at a record of 167.4 bushels per acre. This compares to the previous record of 164.7 bushels per acres in 2009. read more

USDA weather update: Much-needed rain across Corn Belt

Much-needed rain fell across the southern and western Corn Belt, easing concerns about the effects of a drier-than-normal July on reproductive to filling summer crops. Weekly rainfall totaled 2-4 inches or more from the central Plains into the middle Mississippi Valley, but pockets of short-term dryness persisted in the northern and eastern Corn Belt. read more

Corn production, stocks up slightly; soybean production up 16%, stocks unchanged

Source: USDA USDA released the August Crop Production and WASDE reports, predicting an increase in both corn and soybean production, and a decrease in prices. Ending stocks are increased for corn and are flat for soybeans. read more
