The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the traveling public that street improvements will require lane closures on NE 28th Avenue from NE Glisan Street to NE Broadway from Tuesday, November 18 through Monday, December 1st, 7 a.m. through 5 p.m. each weekday. This project may also include some weekend work.

Study ordered to expand toll lanes on freeways

The San Gabriel Valley Tribune says Los Angeles County's transit agency directed staff on Thursday to develop a plan for turning more free carpool lanes into pay-to-ride lanes. John Fasana, a member of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, says Interstates 5, 405 and 210 will be studied, along with possibly extending the current and popular toll lanes on Interstates 10 and 110.

Emergency repairs will close westbound lanes of I-10 at East Loop

Westbound mainlanes of Interstate 10 at the 610 East Loop will close at midnight Tuesday, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. Authorities say the closure is for emergency repairs to the Union Pacific Railroad bridge at I-10 East between McCarty Street and Wayside Drive.

Obama urges FCC to adopt strong net neutrality rules, ban internet fast lanes

President Obama, at long last, has come out in defense of net neutrality. In a short statement (video below), he urges the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to adopt "the strongest possible rules" to protect net neutrality, and to finally reclassify internet providers as common carriers under Title II of the Telecommunications Act. Ultimately, the FCC is an independent agency that Obama can't directly affect -- but presumably Obama is praying that his protestations, plus the 3.7 million other people who have submitted comments over the FCC's net neutrality plans, will be enough to turn the tide.
