Ericsson pushes plan to send wireless apps over unlicensed 5GHz spectrum

Ericsson announced wireless technology today at International CES that's designed to improve coverage and speed for bandwidth-hungry smartphone applications such as streaming video. Ericsson is creating a small cellular device that will cost about $2,000 when available later this year that relies on software called Licensed Assisted Access.

Keurig Green Mountain has broadened its agreement with Caribou Coffee to sell Caribou's roasts in packets compatible with Keurig's new brewer, part of the K-Cup purveyor's efforts to get more brands aboard the new machine since its patent on its old cups expired in 2012. (Telecompaper) The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has proposed to modify its Part 15 rules to accommodate growing demand and encourage innovation in the provision of wireless broadband data services. The Commission's Part 15 rules permit devices to operate on unused "white space" spectrum between TV stations. The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking fulfils the Commission's commitment in the Incentive Auction Report and Order to consider changes to its existing Part 15 rules to facilitate unlicensed use of the television bands, 600 MHz Band guard band and channel 37.
