The Semiconductor Industry Association , representing U.S. leadership in semiconductor manufacturing and design, today announced worldwide sales of semiconductors reached $27.6 billion for the month of April 2015, 4.8 percent higher than the April 2014 total of $26.3 billion and 0.4 percent lower than last month's total of $27.7 billion. The Americas market posted double-digit growth compared to last year, leading all regions.

Sales of existing U.S. homes slipped in April due mainly to relatively few listings and rising prices, providing evidence of the housing sector's uneven recovery. The National Association of Realtors said Thursday that sales of existing homes fell 3.3 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.04 million.

European car sales rose a 20th consecutive month in April, bolstered by a reviving economy and new models from Renault, BMW and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Registrations in the EU and EFTA countries increased 6.9 percent from a year earlier to 1.21 million vehicles, the Brussels-based industry association ACEA, said in a statement today.

BMW said vehicle sales at its core BMW brand rose 5.6 percent in April to a record 148,896 units, as strong sales of the 2-series Active Tourer minivan in Europe and demand for SUVs in the U.S. helped offset a sluggish China market. The automaker increased sales in all regions around the world, sales and marketing chief Ian Robertson said in a statement .
