TASKS Development and implementation of relevant operational product reprocessing including algorithm processors in the reprocessing environment Software development and implementation of operational functional and product quality monitoring procedures for the data set generation monitoring and validation system Acquisition of relevant data from internal and external sources to support product quality monitoring in the reprocessing environment Initialisation, control and execution of operations with respect to both data set generation and evaluation activities Preparation of data sets for ingestion into the EUMETSAT Data Centre Support of the validation of products employing the quality monitoring procedures and other validation techniques as appropriate Support to the development and maintenance of operational procedures for the data set generation Compilation of technical notes on data set generation issues and relevant data set documentation including validation reports, user guides and format descriptions Support to compilation of results into presentations Attendance at scientific and technical meetings Support to international projects and coordinating organisations SKILLS Mandatory Experience A University degree or equivalent in Meteorology or similar relevant discipline with the experience and skills specified hereafter Basic knowledge in satellite meteorology andor oceanography related to climate Basic knowledge in satellite instrument calibration and intercalibration Demonstrated experience in measurement uncertainty analysis metrology andor validation of satellite products including climate data records At least 5 years demonstrated experiencein developing scientific software using higher programming languages, such as CC, FORTRAN, and IDL inclusive of object oriented software design Demonstrated experience in using scripting languages to organize data processing, such as Python, Perl, and Shellscript on operational Unix environments Demonstrated experience in software build environments and source code control systems e.g. Subversion, Rational ClearCase, CVS Experience in the usage of EUMETSAT native and community data formats NetCDF 3 and 4, GRIB, HDF5, and BUFR Experience in large data volume processing in operational processing environments Demonstrated experience in active participation in international projects. Strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation, good interpersonal skills and a proven ability to apply these to the interactions within a team and between teams in international environment Able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Key Person must be able to work effectively in this language. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES In the context of the ISS Exploitation programme, ESA has setup the ERASMUS Support Facility ESF which includes support capabilities to operations MSO, ERA, GS operations coordination room, Public Relations interface and the security infrastructure PKI, Secured DMS, etc.. Under the supervision of the Head of the Columbus Ground Segment Maintenance and Operations Section, the successful candidate will be required to fulfil the following tasks Maintenance and troubleshooting of ESF capabilities, in relation with relevant external procurements organizations. The improvement of the level of service is one of the goals of this task. In the context of the MPCC ground node and Class3 payloads network based on the internet protocol, the successful candidate shall, in relation with the relevant industrial contractors, plan, coordinate and validate the necessary ground implementations between ground users and the onboard LAN The successful candidate shall coordinate security implementations, audits and risk assessments in relation with the Security Control Board. In this capacity, the successful candidate shall participate to the ESA Security Control board SCB and other boards when relevant. The successful candidate shall produce and update at regular intervals an ESF CIDL. Heshe shall also produce an evolution plan and relevant ECRs to adapt and ensure continuity and availability of the ESF The successful candidate will conduct necessary validation tests and issue ESF validation reports. The successful candidate shall be responsible for definition IP addressing schemes and IP stack configuration definitions for users of Class3 PLs ground and board. The successful candidate shall produce validations plans and validation reports for the Class3 PL users ground implementations.
