Xiaomi starts smartphone production in Brazil

(Telecompaper) Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has started production of handsets in Brazil, its first market in the Americas. Xiaomi also announced that it will start selling its Redmi 2 smartphone in Brazil for BRL 499 on 7 July. It will also offer the MiBand and MiPowerBank for sale in Brazil. The Xiaomi phones are assembled in Brazil with Foxconn, which manufactures Apple iPhones in the country since 2011.
