Telecom Italia decides no need to rush for Oi in Brazil - sources

Telecom Italia has concluded it cannot make a move in the expected consolidation of the Brazilian market, where it controls the second biggest mobile operator, until the corporate turmoil abates at prospective merger partner Oi, according to sources familiar with the matter. Oi also needs to cut its debt and costs before Telecom Italia makes a move, one of the sources said.

The Wall Street Journal: Charges filed in Brazil over alleged bid to bribe Petrobras

Brazilian prosecutors on Thursday filed charges against 36 suspects in a corruption investigation alleging construction companies bribed public officials and overbilled state-controlled energy giant Petroleo Brasileiro SA Among those charged were 23 executives from six of the biggest construction companies in Brazil: Camargo CorrAaa SA, Engevix, GalvA o Engenharia, Mendes JAonior, OAS and UTC Engenharia SA. Also among them were Paulo Roberto Costa, the former director of Petrobras' refining division, and Alberto Youssef, an alleged black-market currency dealer who is accused of distributing the bribe payments.

POSCO to Develop US$1.8 Billion Coal Gasification Plant in Brazil

South Korea's POSCO , the world's fourth largest steelmaker, has signed a protocol of intentions with Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul to construct a $1.8 billion coal gasification plant. With a 2 million m3/day capacity, the plant will produce coal-derived synthetic natural gas through coal gasification.
