Airbus Defence and Space A vacancy for a GROUND SEGMENT ARCHITECT FOR SPACE TELECOMMUNICATION MISSIONS mf has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space at its Toulouse site. You will join the Ground Segment Chains Controlling, RF and Mission Telecommunication department within the EngineeringUser Ground Systems Management in Airbus DSSpace Systems. The activities of the department ranged from RD to the development of operational functional chains. You will be in charge of engineering activities andor in the development of space telecommunication mission ground segment field, more particularly concerning the architecture of space telecommunication mission centres, the specification of configuration functions, the planning and supervision of the system, RF performance engineering connection assessments, flow rate, service quality, etc.. The ground segment mission covers several functions, from the RF resources management of the space system in its entirety, the configuration of ground system elements antennas, RF, hardware and software and satellite payload, up to the supervision of the correct operation of the system and the followup of the provided performance, in quality and quantity, and the generation of valueadded products postprocessed and analysed data towards users. Depending on the candidate profile and skills, you will also carry out RD studies andor contribute to or lead responses to calls for tender in these areas. Your main tasks will include Analysing customer and user needs Defining the technical specifications of the subsystem Designing hardware and functional architecture Carrying out engineering and RD studies in the telecommunication systems field Developing modelling, simulation or software application tools Carrying out technical presentations during project reviews Performing technical followup of subcontracting supplier, guiding collaborators or interns This position will require travels abroad in the context of acceptance 1 or 2 per year for several days. As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate some of the following skills and competencies Engineering degree or university equivalent 5year degree, ideally with a specialisation in the space systems domain At least 5 years of experience in telecommunication systems engineering Experience in the development of telecommunication ground systems by satellite would be a plus Ideally, knowledge of all or some of the following skills Ground system engineering methods definition, design, functional and material architecture, analysis and prediction of performance Solution analysis and performance prediction Telecommunication systems architecture modulation, demodulation, reception and transmission chains, antennas, etc. Drafting of the consultation dossier, development followup, workload estimation, planning Commitment, desire to be successful Independent, conscientious and reliable Interest in quality and customer satisfaction Interest in engineering activities, innovation, and problem resolution Pragmatism to effectively lead a project Good interpersonal skills team spirit, good customerpartner relations An advanced level of English and French. DUTIES Seconded from the European Space Agency ESA, the Director of the European Space Policy Institute ESPI is the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute and its legal representative, according to the ESPI Statutes. ESPI is a think tank that was established by decision of the European Space Agency Council in 2002. It is located in Vienna, Austria. The European Space Policy Institute ESPI provides decisionmakers with an informed view on mid to longterm issues relevant to Europes space activities. In this context, ESPI acts as an independent platform for developing positions and strategies. In accordance with the ESPI Statutes, the Director, together with the Treasurer, takes all necessary measures for the management of the association, the execution of its activities, the implementation of its policy and the fulfilment of its purpose, in accordance with the directives issued by the ESPI General Assembly and the advice provided by the ESPI Advisory Council. The main responsibilities include the promotion of European space policy in the world by setting up an active focal point for the analysis and discussion of European needs, capabilities and longterm prospects in space activities, as well as facilitating European space policy research, academic interaction and the definition of longterm European space orientation. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in any scientifictechnical or social science discipline with relevance to space a postgraduate specialisation andor experience in geopolitical or space policy are a distinct advantage an inspirational and visionary leadership style in line with the ESA Leadership Competency Framework proven management and organisational skills with a high degree of entrepreneurship in order to manage a relatively small but selfstanding organisational entity professional experience in an international environment and with multistakeholder organisations proven familiarity with cuttingedge policy debates on space and spacerelated issues in the European context professional experience in the acquisition of third party funding proven communication skills to promote targeted policyoriented outreach and foster impact experience in organising international events and publication activities. The following qualifications will be considered an asset Experience in academia and a track record with refereed publications Availability of a relevant international network Professional experience in working with different kinds of media.
