Quebec energy board calls TransCanada's Energy East plan 'desirable'

Quebec's energy regulator came out in favour of the Energy East pipeline on Wednesday, calling the TransCanada Corp. project "desirable." The Calgary-based company is aiming to link up to 1.1 million barrels a day of Alberta crude to export terminals and refineries in Quebec and New Brunswick through the $12-billion pipeline.

Saskatchewan's premier says the latest interprovincial discussion on the Energy East pipeline proposal is "very good news" for the $12-billion project. Ontario's concerns about the potential environmental impact of the pipeline narrowed considerably Wednesday following a meeting between Premier Kathleen Wynne and Alberta counterpart Jim Prentice.
