Tetris, the world's most successful game, is 30 years old today. Thanks to its simple and addictive gameplay, the massive popularity of the original Game Boy and mobile phones, an estimated 170 million copies of Tetris have been sold since its debut in 1984. Not bad for a game that was originally written at the height of the Cold War in the USSR on an Electronica 60 -- a rack-mounted computer that lacked the ability to output graphics (the blocks were instead formed out of ASCII characters).
