The final judging for the Innovation Awards of the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations EARTO took place in Brussels on October 14. Among the six finalists was the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS. A group of Fraunhofer IIS scientists developed the awiloc technology for secure positioning in wireless networks.

A newly found security flaw could be affecting every Android device on AT&T or Verizon's wireless network, according to an advisory posted by the Carnegie Mellon University CERT database. The vulnerability in question targets LTE wireless networks and takes advantage of the way some US carriers have implemented the technology on their respective networks.

Alibaba makes USD 3.6 bln bid for Touku Tudou

(Telecompaper) Alibaba said has it has made a bid for the shares it does not already own in Chinese internet TV company Touku Tudou of USD 26.60 per share in cash, or a total of USD 3.6 billion. Alibaba already has a stake in the company of 18.3 percent. The proposal is subject to satisfactory completion of due diligence by Alibaba and the negotiation of a mutually acceptable definitive merger agreement. Under Alibaba's proposal, Youku founder Victor Koo would continue to lead the business as chairman and chief executive officer. Alibaba is making the proposal with the support of the founding shareholders of Youku, including Victor Koo, Chengwei Capital and their affiliates.
