UK house prices 'in first annual fall for eight years'

Values were lower in June than they were a year ago, the Nationwide says, as the virus hit the market.

The Nationwide says house prices fell 1.7% in May as the coronavirus crisis hit market activity.

House prices climbed 3.9% in Yorkshire and Humber last year, but just 1.2% in the South East.

Property values were down by 1% after taking inflation into account, the Nationwide Building Society says.

Experts predict a short-lived burst of pent-up activity in the housing market - but not price rises.
