Cotton yarn prices have begun slightly receding on the domestic market in India whereas export prices were further plunging over a sharp fall of the Indian rupee. Demand for Indian cotton fibers and yarns could now rebound from China, offering some strong support to domestic prices in rupee terms. Our review of Indian yarn prices covers the domestic and export markets, including carded and combed cotton, poly-cotton, poly-viscose, 100% polyester and 100% viscose. US apparel imports have stagnated in the first half overall with this average result hiding sharp differences depending on product categories and origins. Suppliers are obviously finding it difficult to further lower their prices with US demand slowing down in volume terms, as a consequence. If China's share is receding, results are very contrasted amid categories whereas other countries like Indonesia are retreating on most segments. Our series of statistical tables offer a comprehensive comparison of volume, value and unit value changes per origin and product category in 1st half 2018.
