An Exxon Mobile underground pipeline ruptured in a Mayflower, Arkansas subdivision on Friday, forcing the evacuation of 40 homes and the closure of a section of I-40. Oil Giant Sets Sights on Getting Tar Sands Crude to Gulf Coast
2013-03-29 06:13:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Globe and Mail: France's Total SA says current market conditions favour processing oil sands crude on the U.S. Gulf Coast rather than building an $11.6-billion upgrader in Alberta, as the company took a $1.65-billion (U.S.) loss on its 49-per-cent stake in the cancelled Voyageur project. Total announced the writedown a day after its partner, Suncor Energy Inc., announced the cancellation of the Voyageur project. Suncor - Canada's largest oil-sands producers - said market conditions have changed dramatically in...

Petitioners are out to stop both the Keystone XL pipeline and a plan to use an existing, aging pipeline to send tar-sands oil across New England to Portland. The corrosive tar sands, which Canadian companies want to sell and ship overseas, would...

Some 60 hearty souls braved brisk March breezes Saturday to march one-third mile up a private road to Chevrons Salt Lake City refinery. They protested tar sands development in eastern Utah and criticized the oil giants processing of Canadian crude from Alberta tar sands. Later Saturday afternoon, however, a spokesman for Chevron said that although the Salt Lake City facility...

2013-03-25 05:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Times Argus: The Vermont Senate has advanced legislation that would toughen environmental review over an oil pipeline if its use sees significant changes. Preliminary approval Friday came without substantial debate on the bill. It followed concerns voiced by environmental groups that owners of the Portland Montreal Pipe Line are looking to reverse its current east-to-west flow and begin shipping so-called tar sands oil from western Canada through northern New England for loading onto ships in Maine. The...
