Kelly Martin , former CEO of Elan Corp. , and Sean Murphy , former head of M&A and business development for Abbott Laboratories , to help oversee the investment. "We believe the promise of Novan's pipeline and our advancement toward commercialization enabled us to attract strong participation in this round, leading us to close at twice the original target of $25 million," says Neal Hunter , Novan's founding investor and chairman.

Teva to buy U.S. drug developer Auspex Pharma for $3.5 billion

Israel's Teva Pharmaceutical Industries said it would buy U.S. neurology drug company Auspex Pharmaceuticals Inc for an equity value of $3.5 billion to boost its portfolio of treatments for the central nervous system. Teva, the world's largest maker of generic drugs, will offer $101 per share in cash, representing a premium of 42.4 percent to Auspex's Friday closing price, the companies said on Monday.

European regulators have postponed a decision on whether to recommend approval of a closely watched Bristol-Myers Squibb drug that helps the immune system fight cancer, officials said on Friday. Nivolumab, which is already approved in the United States under the brand name Opdivo for melanoma and lung cancer, was on the agenda at a monthly meeting of European Medicines Agency experts, but no verdict was reached.
