Samsung opens 129,000-square meter mobile phone plant in India

(Telecompaper) Samsung Electronics has inaugurated its new mobile phone manufacturing facility in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. Samsung India has also launched its 'Make for the World' initiative, whereby it aims to export mobile handsets produced in India to overseas markets. With this new facility, Samsung reports that it will double its current capacity for mobile phones in Noida from 68 million units a year to 120 million, in a gradual expansion that is scheduled for completion by 2020.

US govt's NTIA recommends against licence for China Mobile

(Telecompaper) The US government appears set to reject a request from China Mobile for an operator licence in the US due to national security concerns. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration said it recommended the FCC deny China Mobile's request for a licence.

Charter launches own MVNO Spectrum Mobile

(Telecompaper) US cable operator Charter Communications has launched its own mobile service, called Spectrum Mobile. Available only to Charter's residential broadband customers, Spectrum Mobile offers nationwide LTE service and access to a national network of Wi-Fi hotspots, with a choice of unlimited services for USD 45 per month or a per-unit price of USD 14 per GB.
